Alan's page of military RUNCIMANs led to a recheck of what all was available for the 3 or 4 David RUNCIMANs born around 1800.
The 1841 census had a family at Heatherly in Selkirkshire, where all of the family, except the youngest daughter Jean, were born "Scotland".
Wonder when Gibraltar became part of Scotland ??
Marion later shows up as Mary Ann, born Gibraltar, and her marriage entry (to Robert McGILL, later GILL) in the Edinburgh OPRs show her as daughter of the late David RUNCIMAN, pensioner of Selkirk.
This David's service record shows him as aged 19 born Ayton when he enlisted in 1822, so I believe the Heatherly family belong to the James and Agnes (HERRIOT) RUNCIMAN line.
Still looking for any further information on the David RUNCIMAN married to Jean BIGGAR whose son John was born 1821 at Yarrow, and on the David born 1803 to William and Mary (FORSYTH) RUNCIMAN at Earlston.
The other 1801 David, son of James & Mary (TOSHACH) RUNCIMAN of Perth isn't immediately obvious in 1841 in the UK, as yet.
Most of the entries in the Recent Changes index of the One Name Study are still tidy ups as data gets transferred from the DNA project, apart from updated trees for the families mentioned above. Some links may not yet work, sorry.
In the process of the research above a few twigs were also added to the line of John & Ann (SOUNESS) RUNCIMAN, a descendant having been found emigrating to Marion Co., Indiana in the 1920s.
